Platinum is Timeless

I did not know this at the time I bought my girlfriend and me platinum wedding rings but platinum runs in my family. Both my parents and my grandparents also use platinum for the band for their wedding rings. I know that platinum is becoming more popular and after a couple of years the fad will diminish and people will forget all about platinum. But after seeing that platinum has been popular for so many generations, I see that platinum is not just a fad. It is always used and in demand because see how much better it is than any other metal.
After being married for 55 years, my grandparents' wedding rings still look like they are only a couple of years old. I think having wedding rings that don't look like they aged help them stay in a young, newly-wed state of mind.

As my proposal to my girlfriend is getting closer, I had to make a decision on which metal I wanted to purchase for the wedding band. After a night of making a pros and cons list, it was clear I should get platinum. My list was practically all pros and no cons! 

Earlier this week, I went out and chose the exact platinum band I was going to give my girlfriend. Since I had done my research beforehand at Engagement Guide, the purchasing process was simple and I was in and out before I got cornered by salespeople. I have officially taken my first step towards the big day. I cant be more excited!

Then just yesterday, my girlfriend told me her new gold earrings that her mother gave her for the holidays were irritating her skin and she doesn't think she can wear them anymore. As much as I tried to be sympathetic to her feelings, I could not stop thinking how glad I am that the band I just chose is platinum! Platinum is hypoallergenic so it does not irritate the skin of people who are allergic to certain metals.

This is the most wonderful time of the year!

Few interesting facts about platinum

I thought a few facts about platinum might be good to introduce here because many of them were new to me prior to beginning my search for my wife's engagement ring.

First off, platinum is extremely pure - much more so

 than other precious metals.  At 90-95% purity, platinum is hypoallergenic, which means if your skin is at all sensitive, platinum is one of the few metals out there that wont cause an allergic reaction.

Platinum also has a ton of uses aside from the obvious (jewelry).. uses include:

Catalytic converters, fuel cells, gas refineries, glass fibre, flat panel screens, pacemakers, computer hard disks, personal razors, tableware, chemotherapy drugs and radiation treatment.

Starting a Long Journey

Hey there,

I have been going out with my girlfriend for a couple of years now and I really think that she is the ONE. When I was planning out my proposal, fixing all the kinks so that way it could be perfect. My girlfriend and I have a lot of "our" things so I was able to think of a proposal idea that was easy and meaningful. (She is really into cliches so I just needed to watch the Notebook or some other chick flick and I was good to go.) 

When it comes to jewelry, my extent of knowledge in this is basically watches. I know nothing. I went to a couple of stores but I got the feeling that they were just trying to sell my the priciest ring without even listening to what I had to say. Because the economy is so low now, I felt that they just needed a sale, but I needed all the facts before I invested my money into an engagement ring for my girlfriend.
